Small Groups

Small Groups are places where we can connect and explore together the ways we can apply God's transforming truth and experience change for the better. It is a place of community and connection that is encased in a safe environment for the purpose of relationships and spiritual growth.  Anyone is welcome to join a group.

What is a Small Group?

A Small group is 6 to 12 people meeting together regularly to build friendships and grow spiritually.  While weekend church services provide a great place to meet people and experience God, they are not always the best place to get to know someone or to discuss what you are learning and how it's affecting your life.  In a Small Group, you'll be encouraged and have the opportunity to encourage others.  You might think of it as "doing life together."

What happens in a Small Group?

Usually, a Small Group meeting will include casual talk and introductions as people arrive and settle in.  Then a trained leader will lead the group through the study or discussion that is prepared for the week.  Some New Life Vineyard Small Groups discuss in greater detail something presented during our weekend services.  You can find out the topic for discussion at any small group through communication with the leaders.  Groups sometimes include a time of worship and usually end with a time of prayer.

Are all Small Groups the same?

Every Small Group has its own personality.  Even when the topic of discussion is the same, they feel different based on the leader and people attending.  In addition, some groups are specifically for certain groups, such as singles, married couples, men only, or women only.

How long does a Small Group meeting last?

A typical Small Group will meet from an hour and a half to two hours. Feel free to contact the Small Group leader or host prior to attending to get more details.

Can I just show up?

Yes!  Small Group leaders are always ready for new people.  However, it's not a bad idea to call or email the leader first, just in case the group is doing something special that week, or to get special instructions on parking, etc.

What should I bring?

When visiting a Small Group for the first time, bring a Bible if you have one and maybe a pen or pencil. If the group has specific study materials, they will share those with you when you visit.

Can I bring a friend?

Every group has an open chair, so we would love for you to bring a friend with you. And don't worry if your friend is not a church-goer. They will be warmly welcomed.

What if I visit a group and don't like it?

Not a problem!  It's important for you to feel comfortable with the group.  If you don't feel comfortable, don't feel bad about looking for another group.  We have several you can try and we understand that a lot of factors schedules, personalities, study topics go into finding a group that fits.

How often do Small Groups meet?

Most groups meet weekly or every other week.

Where do Small Groups meet?

A variety of places including; New Life Vineyard Church, homes throughout the area, local restaurants, coffee shops, and other public locations. Contact the group's leader and they will provide you with specific location information and directions.

Do Small Groups offer childcare?

Some Small Groups offer childcare, although it is most often on-campus groups that are "child friendly."  When childcare is available, there is usually a small fee that covers the cost of the care.  Once you've decided to visit a group, please contact the leader to get details on childcare.

Is this really something important to try?

Absolutely. Small groups are the easiest and best way to really find your space in the larger church. Your small group friends will be there with you to pray and support and encourage and love you. Don't miss out on this opportunity.
